GlaxoSmithKline to Pull Dangerous Denture Creams

The New York Times reported that drug giant GlaxoSmithKline announced that it would stop making and distributing three versions of its popular denture adhesive Poligrip until it removed zinc from the products because of concerns about health risks. In large amounts, the zinc in denture creams may cause serious conditions known as neuropathies, which involve varying degrees of nerve damage and neurological damage to victims. Side effects include Symptoms of neuropathy include:

  • Tingling or numbness in the extremities
  • Abnormal sensations
  • Foot pain
  • Loss of balance
  • Heavy feeling in legs
  • Inability to hold objects
